Up and Running...

Okay, the hosting company move is finished and I think everything is cool with the GreyMatter Blog Software installation. Had some trouble initially. I upgraded to the new 1.3.1 that just came out. Whackademia will still have problems until I get around to dealing with it this weekend (much more custom modified, so it takes precious time that I don't have to do every upgrade). The new upgrade appears to fix the major problem we had on Whackademia, so I'm going to do it one more time. Also maybe some changes for the lightly used (in recent weeks) Whackademia, but I must discuss with my compatriots first.

I also will be doing some sidebar maintenance and some other things. Raul and Sarachkah have bailed on their old blogs, and the new ones are private or semi-private, so I won't be linking to them for the time being. I'll probably add some new stuff as I find time this weekend.

Let me know if you run into trouble. I like the new hosting company a lot so far. And the ginormous amount of bandwidth is disgusting. Dreamhost.com, if you're looking.

The Big Move

I'm making a hosting company move. There may be problems with smelltheglory.com for anywhere between 3 hours and 2 days. I'll post when everything is back up.

wowgirl - Internet Sneak Preview

Well, if that title doesn't explain it, I can't help you. It's been 4 years since we shot wowgirl, and other than a few members of the cast & crew, no one has seen it all the way through. This is because I'm a slacker. However, for the cast, crew, and the few people who read this blog, welcome to the show.

In about 3 weeks, the entire rough cut of wowgirl will be available to view online.

Got your attention? Here's the deal: I will make a media file of some sort (to be determined) that includes the entire rough cut of wowgirl available for a period of approx 6-8 hours. It will be password protected, and you will have to get the password from me via email (since this is not for public consumption yet). There will be missing music, bad sound and dialogue flubs in certain spots, etc. But more or less, the whole film will be watchable. For those that have seen the first rough cut, this cut will include the re-shot opening scene at the picnic table, the re-shot Neil/Kate sequence, some minor editing changes, and more music.

The bandwidth will not be a problem on my end. You will need broadband, of course, to see it. The size should be pretty decent, I may even offer multiple sizes for varying bandwidth rates.

A few details need to be sorted out, and you can help. What format do you want it in? The options are Windows Media, Real, and Quicktime - does anyone have a preference (or more importantly, a format they can't handle)? Also, the day and time. My initial thought is April 9th, maybe 4pm to midnight. That's a Saturday, but it's certainly not set in stone. Any problems, or other preferred times?

I don't know, I'm pretty excited by the idea. You?

Top of the Week Roundup with Lost and...Basketball?

I've got maybe three or four quick things to mention, some of which pertain to my regular readers, so I'm just going to toss these bad boys out and you can pick and choose. First off, I'm changing hosting companies later today, so STG might be down or sporadic in its availability for the next few days.

I have not one, but two mildly interesting things about basketball to mention. Which might very well be the first interesting things about Basketball ever to exist. (I kid. Surely there's been something before.) First off, Raul may have had trouble with his tournament picks, but his hatred of Kansas paid off. I happened to be in a bar on friday night when this game ended in a one-point victory upset for Bucknell, and you wouldn't believe the cries of disbelief (including one of the most foul-mouthed, funniest angry drunk outburts I've ever heard in public). But somewhere, Raul was cheering.

Also, did anyone hear about how James LaBron scored 56 points in a single game yesterday and the Cavaliers still lost? They must have signed me mid-season and I didn't notice.

At The Greatness' graduation party, I mentioned that Lost was going away until mid-April. Obviously, a dastardly ABC executive must have been at the party and listening, because not three days later, ABC up and moved up the return date. A new lost epsiode will appear next week, March 30. I was correct though, originally it was scheduled for later and they moved it up. Anyway, please don't miss this episode because I said it would be a rerun, thereby causing you to come after me with sharp, pointy objects.

And finally, I have a big surprise for all regular readers of my blog (plus maybe a couple of non-regulars) that I will talk about later today. Come back around, mid-afternoon (3:00pm-ish). You'll dig it, I promise.

Music

I've been thinking a lot about music recently. Mostly because I'm going to be completing work on my recording studio shortly, but also because I'm starting to get a strong urge to write and record again. I won't be doing anything serious until wowgirl is done, but I'm starting to think in that direction for the time being.

Also, with people asking about The Raul Groom Blues Band (now that's a great name for a band) this weekend, I was thinking about some of the other things Greatness and Raul and Brad and I have recorded over the years. I think I'll slowly be digitizing a lot of that stuff and putting up here. I'm sure there will be much nostalgia and embarrassment for everyone. (Let's not forget Cistern, which is, tragically, already available.)

Of course, I came to Athens to make music. I thought that's what I was going to do when I got here. wowgirl and filmmaking sidetracked me for several years. This was a good detour, and I'm glad I made it, but now I'm slowly moving back towards music. So here's what I've been thinking about. Your thoughts on any of these things are appreciated.

Hawaii Day 2 (with Pictures!)

Author's Note: At the current pace, Hawaii Day 9 should arrive sometime in 2014. I hope you anticipate it as much as I do. Perhaps I will write the final day in some sort of digitally projected holographic word processor.

First thoughts upon waking: What's that horrible feeling? Ahh yes, jet lag. No, it isn't noon, it's only 6:00AM. I'm going back to sleep now.

Next thoughts: 6:15 and I ain't going back to sleep. Stupid jet lag.
