Six Degrees of St. Elsewhere

I don't know what to tell you. This column is an eye-opening mind bender for the average TV addict such as myself. I'd explain it to you, but he does such a good job and it isn't that long. Basically, though, the last 5 minutes of the final episode of St. Elsewhere prove to be remarkably important to the TV universe as a whole.

In other, completely unrelated news, I've decided that I want to write some sort of generational drama. I have no idea what it will be about, but that's not important because I have a title. In true Robert Ludlum fashion, it will be called The Whippersnapper Attitude.

If you love Bon Jovi

This guy may just own us all.

This post is particularly aimed at Kickin' Bird. But the rest of you are obligated to admit the excellence inherent in the link.

How did I miss this?

Raul has a new child. The Greatness has a new fiance. I have a new wife.

Apparently, it has been out for a couple of months. Unfortunately, I just discovered this today. Which means none of us will be seeing our loved ones for any amount of time in the near future. Sorry, guys. But hey, do you think we can network it?

Neal Stephenson Interview in Reason

A remarkably intriguing paragraph in the middle of this interview.

"Speaking as an observer who has many friends with libertarian instincts, I would point out that terrorism is a much more formidable opponent of political liberty than government. Government acts almost as a recruiting station for libertarians. Anyone who pays taxes or has to fill out government paperwork develops libertarian impulses almost as a knee-jerk reaction. But terrorism acts as a recruiting station for statists. So it looks to me as though we are headed for a triangular system in which libertarians and statists and terrorists interact with each other in a way that I'm afraid might turn out to be quite stable."

Soemthign to think about. I really should whip out my copy of Cryptonomicon and finish it.

Thrice Told Transmission?

Okay, very weird. At the begining of the day, I get one of Warren Ellis' random email list blurts. He was talking about the music feature on myspace.com. Which I've never heard of before. Then, somewhere (can't remember), I'm reading about Rivers Cuomo and he put up a huge essay on what happened to him and Weezer between Pinkerton and the new album coming out. It's very weird, but a neat read. Posted on myspace.com. Which, as I said, I've never heard of before. And then, out of the blue, my friend Keith emails me an invitation to join - you guessed it - myspace.com. Which, perhaps I have mentioned, I have never heard of before.

All of this before 11:00am this morning. My question to you - is this flat out a sign that I need to freakin' sign up? I mean, as far as I can tell this place is mostly a friend-networking type of place. Probably some singles stuff (which, rather obviously I hope, I have less than zero interest in). The blog is uber-redundant. The mail and IM equally so. There are some cool features. The music thing is kinda neat - free place to stream your MP3s to people. But I'm months away from any serious work on music and the other features I don't care about. Still - three times in three hours. Very strange. Any thoughts?
