Harry Potter and the Kick Ass KickAssers

I miss you too, Margaret. I miss everybody. Friday was too insane to really take in the goodbye. But first day at the new job was pretty cool, though boring at times since there was no computer after lunch (the "network guys" had to re-Ghost it and it never came back) and they sent me home at 3:00 since I was reading an XSLT book, which I could do with practical internet aide from home. However, I slept until 7:15, the drive in was easy, and I got there at 8:30, which was apparently a half hour earlier then I needed to be there. I can't wait to actually get to work.

(Oh, and Shan - they take their coffee Really Fucking Serious(TM) at this place. The coffee machine is a triple pot hooked up to a water line, with free regular and decaf packets, PLUS, they have a 50cent machine that allows you to make a single cup of the gourmet stuff - four different flavors. MMMMM French Mocha...)

Yennifer needs to tell Yark to get over it and break it down with the Potter. Speaking of Potter, let's talk (non-spoilery on the top page) Potter for a moment, shall we?

J.K. Rowling has this insane ability to take the last two hundred pages of her books and RATCHET the story up about 8 notches. Half-Blood Prince is no exception. I was at about page 425 last night. Around 5:30 tonight, I started reading and right around page 450, it roars into overdrive. And I did not stop until the heartbreaking, electrifying, and spectacular end. That woman knows how to make her characters matter.

Warning: There might be spoilers in the comments. Don't go in unless you know or you just don't care.

Ch-Ch-Changes...

I suppose it's official now, so I can mention it here. As of July 23, 2005, I will no longer be a full-time employee of Athens Technical College, where I have worked since I left college. I have taken a positon as a Programmer/Analyst at Rock-Tenn. They make boxes. Much like John Locke on Lost, I now work for Hurley. Heh. Actually, they do a lot more than just make boxes, but that is their bread and butter. And you wouldn't believe the cutting edge technology they use to do it. It's a fantastic opportunity for me and my wife, that put us in a better place physically (less exhaustion), emotionally, and financially. I make no secret of the fact that God has blessed my life tremendously from day one, and this new leg of my journey is markedly indicative of that.

It was not an easy decision, but spending close to two-and-a-half hours a day in my car became a huge, tiring burden that I needed to do something about. I will miss everyone I have worked with for the last seven years greatly. It really has been fun. And, of course, I will continue to do some work part-time for Athens Tech, particularly until my replacement gets settled.

I will continue my general moritorium on discussing work on the blog. It's not usually a good idea, for any number of reasons. But I figured this deserved a mention, eh? ;)

We don't really know anything

Ah, science. I love science. One of the things I love most about science is its inherent ability to humble humanity as a whole. We are still in our infancy of understanding. And shit like this just blatantly points it out:

Sunscreen might be bad for you?

It's just early research, may or may not be true. But that's the point, isnt't it?

From Slashdot.
