Eminent Domain
I can't remember the last time I felt so awful after a Supreme Court decision. I have so much I want to say about this, but I have no time to say it, no energy to say it with appropriate vehemence, and no words to say it right. Maybe in a few days, I'll be able to address it in some form or another. For now, George Will can do the talking.
Two things I will say:
When the first showed up yesterday, one of the ladies in my office exclaimed something to the effect of "Those stupid Republicans - they're just 'Bush-izing' the whole country!" Imagine her surprise to discover the justices Stevens, Souter, Bryer, Kennedy, and Ginsburg - the liberal justices and a couple of swingers - were the ones who supported this decision. I wasn't. One side supports property rights as part of the foundation of our freedom. The other side - not so much.
Last thing: It should be obvious to anyone paying attention to anything at all that something has gone horribly wrong when Republicans are the ones saying that this decision will allow big corporations and the wealthy to have more power and control over minorities and the poor.
While, for the most part, the Democrats remain curiously and pathetically silent on this decision.

Holy Crap, Batman!
So I just got back from Batman Begins. The entire movie is like one big middle finger to Ang Lee and Hulk. It's a big sign that says, "Hey Ang Lee, if you want to make a dramatic, character-based comic book movie, this is how you do it." Absolutely phenomenal movie. A single bad one liner away from being a perfect film.
Best. Comic. Book. Movie. Ever. No Hype.

Whoring for my posse
I put a new band over on the sidebar - Of Mirth and Matter. Two of the members are friends who also rent my Athens house. So money most definitely exchanged hands.
The band is a rather intriguing mix of rock and jazz. I don't like everything that's up at their site (a myspace account with the free streaming), but I love the experiment. "Akin to Divinity" is my personal favoriteo f their songs, though "Floodgate" ends up a lot stronger than it starts off.
Check them out. They have no merchanise, so I'm the only whore in the equation.

Rent and Other Stuff
I present to you the trailer for the movie version of Rent.

This looks incredible (though, apparently shot in San Francisco? weird). I think Chris Columbus may have knocked it out of the park. I love Rent and I had some great discussions about it with some of the people who read this blog. Check it out, well worth the look.
Also, I've been getting huge amounts of comment spam, so I'm going to have to install SpamHack to the blog, but it's going to be a few days before I can find time to do so. Our new kitchen cabinets arrived more then two weeks early. Which is great, but it also means that any and all plans I had for this weekend have been replaced by the install job. And a couple of countertop pieces aren't finished yet, so there will be bare spots over part of the cabinets for another week or so. Oh well. I'm going to have awesome before and after pictures posted here. The difference is going to be pretty stunning.
